Integrating + Balancing Fire + Water Elements in Gods Qigong
2-4 March 2012
Download course description and registration form by clicking here.
Everyone is welcome:
- Beginners will learn essential energetics and physical mechanics of at least two movements of Gods Qigong.
- Experienced practitioners will train neigong components that drive the movements of Gods Qigong and make it a bridge to meditation. We will look at the whole set once Fire + Water are in harmony with one another.
The entire neigong system—comprised of 16 essential components that generate health and vitality—can be realised through practice of Gods Qigong. This powerful qigong system is known in China for upgrading and integrating bodily systems (e.g., nervous, digestive, cardiovascular, immune, respiratory) into one coherent whole. This process is said to boost the overall functioning of your body, mind and chi, fostering health, flexibility, healing and vitality.
The components developed through Gods Qigong can then be fused with all other internal arts, such as Bagua Circle Walking Meditation and tai chi. Classically, Gods Qigong served as a bridge to meditation.
In this seminar, Paul will teach two of the six movements that comprise Gods Qigong to help you actualise real health benefits in a pragmatic and easy, step-by-step format. More advanced practitioners will focus on the internal content that drives the external form.
Fire + Water Elements
From the perspective of the body, the Fire Element governs the nerves while the Water Element governs the fluids. These two aspects are critical in developing your body, mind and chi—the portals through which your practice becomes truly internal.
Paul will begin with the basic form, building in layers of internal content at each new level. He will also introduce various strands of the Fire and Water Elements, helping you integrate each independently and later balancing the two as you progress. The internal work begins with initiating the pulse to release the nerves and then using the flow of blood and interstitial fluid to quench the Fire in the nerves. The alternation between nerves and fluids creates a positive feedback loop, potentially releasing the body at ever deeper layers.
Paul will offer personal corrections to help beginners learn the fundamental practices and more advanced practitioners gain access to the deeper aspects of neigong. However, the group will train together most of the time, so that you can absorb and integrate the exercises according to your personal capacity and realise your full potential. The higher and deeper levels of this work will require focus and sensitivity since the process of working with chi involves many subtleties.
The depth of the material presented will be adjusted to those present on such topics as:
- The yin and yang aspects of the 70% rule
- Gaining access to your nerves and using them to govern your movements
- Initiating the pulse (opening and closing)
- Engaging the macrocosmic orbit
- Directly and indirectly moving chi and unifying the two
- Engaging the cardiovascular system and boosting the flow of interstitial fluid (between cells).
Pulling Silk in Tai Chi + Tai Chi Circling Hands
3-5 August 2012
Everyone is welcome; Paul will teach choreography, so no prior experience is necessary.- Group 1, Wu or Yang Style Tai Chi—Must know some formwork on arrival.
- Group 2, Tai Chi Circling Hands—Recommended for qigong + bagua practitioners, or those interested in exercise for maintaining + improving health.
Intermediate and advanced form corrections will be offered for those who know Tai Chi Circling Hands or Wu Style Tai Chi Short Form on arrival.
Pulling Silk
This specific soft form of energetic development is unique to tai chi and yet extremely beneficial to all internal arts practitioners. Pulling Silk can only be developed through soft application of body motion; through the development of Pulling Silk, the body softens further and more deeply.
The Pulling Silk technique is practised with the purpose of generating incredible effects in body-mind-chi, including:
- De-contracting and soothing the nervous system, releasing the body’s deeply bound, long-term tension, working from the inside out.
- Generating abundant and nurturing yin energy.
- Increasing the circulation of blood and interstitial fluid (between cells).
- Boosting the immune system.
- Raising the threshold of overall health and vitality.
- Settling the mind and increasing awareness.
Everyone will learn the foundation techniques of Pulling Silk through the gentle, repetitive movements of Tai Chi Circling Hands (see a video demonstration of Paul’s 12-circle set below).
Then, the group will split into:
- Those who practise a tai chi form will learn specific methods for deepening Pulling Silk in your form.
- Those who do not practise a tai chi form will learn more content geared towards expanding the depth and range of your Pulling Silk technique within Tai Chi Circling Hands.
Tai Chi Practitioners—will learn methods for dramatically upgrading their form by truly moving into chi work, and thereby superseding physical mechanics.
Qigong + Bagua Practitioners—will learn how methods for developing incredibly yin yet powerful energy, that can later be applied to developing the yin aspect of their art of choice.
